About Karel

Mr. Winner has been working in healthcare for over 20 years. He initially studied to become a podiatrist in England and specialized in endocrinology, pediatrics, biomechanics and movement science. After immigrating to the United States he retrained as a sonographer at UCSF and became registered in general ultrasound, breast and oncology ultrasound, obstetric and gynecology ultrasound, pediatric ultrasound and vascular ultrasound. He worked with an underserved population at the largest county hospital in California for five years and realized that there was a great need for mental health providers and that he was incredibly passionate about psychology and mental health care. He completed his bachelors and masters degrees in nursing at Alverno College and is doing his post masters in psychiatry and mental health at The University of Tennessee. He is also currently completing a doctorate focusing on trauma informed care at The University of Wisconsin. In his spare time he likes to travel, and has done so extensively. At present he has lived and worked and studied on four different continents and has traveled to over 100 countries. He also has two dogs, Romeo a pomsky, and Kenzie a rescue, whom he spends a lot of time with, hiking on as many trails as he can find.
